Why Mobilizing Ektron-based Sites Is Now Easier Than Ever Before

Being the latest version of Ektron, v9 of the popular content management system (CMS) obviously packs a lot more enhancements and useful features for web developers than any of its past avatars. However, one of the most noteworthy features, at least as far as developers are concerned, is probably the extensive support for mobilization. Indeed, there are a number of features that help you directly mobilize your website with Ektron. Here are a few of those:

Support for responsive design

Responsive design is the all new buzz-term among web developers. Simply put, it indicates techniques that ensure you do not have to build a separate website for each platform, from which your website can be accessed. Ektron 9 aims to change that, by allowing you to build a single website, which is accessible from all platforms. Whether a user accesses your website from a desktop computer, a tablet, a smartphone, or even a digital TV, he will always see the version optimized for that platform. You can control the visibility of every single element of your website, from banner images and photos, down to blocks of text, choosing what to display on a particular platform.

How does Ektron 9 accomplish this?

There are special “breakpoints” that you can set for each page of your website, during the design phase. These points determine how the content of your site is split into sections for optimum viewing experience on mobile devices. When a user arrives at one of these breakpoints, the first of which loads as the first page of your website is displayed, the text content is split into parts and images are automatically resized to fit the display area. You can also choose which sections of your website content will appear on different devices. For instance, that 3248x2056 snap of Scarlette Johansson might look great on the home page of your site, but it may not display well on the smaller screens of smartphones. Why not choose a smaller version to display on mobile devices and provide a link to the larger version for fans to download?

Enhanced preview of mobile content

This is a great tool to have at hand. Ektron 9 actually shows you how the content of your site would look on a mobile device, during the design phase itself. Check out the preview and fix any problems with the look of the site, right there. You may do this for multiple types of mobile devices, from smartphones to tablets and every other compatible device in the middle.

Ektron 9 has been designed from the ground up as the perfect CMS for you to develop mobile websites. Packed with many new enhancements and built to support most popular mobile devices, the content management system is bound to make web development a pleasure for you. Get it today and build the perfect website for your business. The built in business tools should also help you promote your business on social platforms like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, reaching out to more visitors than you ever could before.

In fact, website owners who have shifted to Drupal has realized that they don't need to have a tech team in the first place.

This content management system (CMS) and content management framework (CMF) is written in PHP and has been distributed under the GNU General Public License. This CMS is being used worldwide to manage personal blogs to corporate, and political websites. The interface of this Drupal is very similar to Microsoft Word. If you have to basic computer operating knowledge, then you can easily manage your own website without having to hire expensive IT teams. Moreover, it doesn't matter whether you know computer programming languages like HTML. The simplicity of Drupal has made it widely popular in all over the world.

Your business website represents your company or organization on the Internet. So it is important for you to keep it updated with fresh news and information about your company. No one likes to visit a website that shows useless and old content. Drupal makes this task easy for you. Want to edit certain areas? Add a new page to the site? Discard old content and add fresh one? You can do that easily on the go with any simple web browser. So, you will save money, time, and live with peace that you can change and update your website any time you want.

Thanks to drupal developers, it is no longer just a content management system. If you already have a website and you're still reading this article then chances are there that you have used a number of content management systems in the past and have realized that none of them are perfect. Some just do better job than others. You should also talk your Drupal developers about mobilizing Drupal because the smartphone market is thriving with every passing day. It will help you stay ahead in the game and take advantage of an always evolving open source community platform where millions of people contribute continuously.

As with prior version upgrades, this time also developer communities across the globe are eagerly waiting to experience Drupal development with this new version. Indeed, this time Drupal has packed a lot of features into the CMS that are likely to make the job of web developers much easier than before. Let’s have a sneak peek into some of the most notable features of Drupal 8, shall we?

Responsive themes are going to change the way developers build websites

Responsive design is the all new way of ensuring that websites are displayed perfectly on every kind of device, from desktop computers to tablets and smartphones. The text is automatically resized and the images and other multimedia elements are re-aligned according to the size of the screen, for the best browsing experience. Problem is, even if the cores of most content management systems are compatible with responsive design, the themes and extensions are usually not so. This often results in conflicts between the CMS and its themes, resulting in weird glitches in the way the website is displayed. Drupal 8 seeks to change the scenario completely, for the better. Every theme packed into this version of Drupal offer seamless support for responsive design, allowing developers to create the best browsing experience for visitors, every time. Plus, there will certainly be new ones available for download, in the months following the release.

Backward compatibility is going to make website migration quick and easy

Migrating websites coded in earlier versions of a CMS to the latest version is often a royal pain in the neck for web developers. There are tons of glitches to take care of during the process and even after that, there is no guarantee that every element is going to work properly. Drupal 8 changes the game by offering seamless support for migration of websites coded in Drupal 6 or later versions into Drupal 8. Every element of websites including themes and multimedia elements can be flawlessly ported to the new version, without any glitch. This functionality is likely to bring forth drastic reduction in the duration of Drupal development cycles.

Multilingual sites will be easier to develop than before

Drupal 8 will make developing multilingual websites easier than ever before. From inbuilt user interfaces in many different languages to software translation updates delivered by the active community of drupal developers around the world, Drupal 8 is going to make developing multilingual websites easier than ever before.

Drupal developers are eagerly waiting for the release of Drupal 8, and with good reason! A host of new features available in this version, such as support for responsive design, multilingual website development and backward compatibility with Drupal 6, are guaranteed to make the life of developers much easier.

KitKat 4.4 brings good news for Android app developers

The 4.4 KitKat version of the mobile OS and the Google Nexus 5 are two of the biggest Android developments which can disrupt the mobile industry going into 2014. KitKat was in the pipeline and people were waiting for Google to make it official along with the company's latest mobile device, the Nexus 5. After months of unconfirmed image and specification leaks, speculations and debates, Google's premium smartphone is finally available to order on Google Play.

According to Sundar Pichai, senior vice president, Android, Chrome and Google Apps, the new operating system has been redesigned making it not only compatible with a range of smartphones in 2014 but also phones with last year's specifications. This is great news for Android app developers as the new OS opens up the market even further, by including lower to mid-range phones that don't ship with a lot of RAM. Google says the minimum RAM requirement for KitKat OS to run smoothly on mobiles is a modest 512 MB.

What to expect?

Google's mobile OS and its different versions power numerous devices. With KitKat, the company wants to unify all of its software under a common umbrella. It foresees the next billion people going mobile with a single OS – KitKat 4.4. Till now, these different iterations posed a challenge to publishers of fun, hip mobile apps who weren't able to design programs that would work on all devices. Users stuck with older versions of the OS were not able to get access to improvements or upgrades each succeeding version had to offer.

This latest Android development will surely be appreciated by millions of users in developing markets and around the world as the changes in the new OS enable it to work with limited memory capacity smartphones in the entry level price bracket. Pichai also remarked that Google is looking to take the same Android version and make it compatible with all existing and future versions (till atleast 2014) of mobile devices. The whole idea behind this new release is to prevent fragmentation of the multiple versions of the OS and bring them all together.

New revenue source for developers

The good news for Android app developers has to be the fact that Google has already released KitKat to handset makers. It means they can start building their smartphones based on the new software, with developers getting more monetization opportunities from apps that can run on both past and upcoming handsets. KitKat has quite a few improvements up its sleeve, especially the user interface, which is now richer and more intuitive. The OS anticipates what a user wants to see before being asked, like when you are near a movie theater, it displays show times.

Google went with LG again this time to design its latest smartphone. The South Korean consumer electronics company had partnered with Google last year to manufacture the Nexus 4. Back then, Google introduced their Jelly Bean 4.1 OS running on the phone, and though the device had a lot going for it, erratic supply chains prevented it from becoming a phenomenon like other flagships, namely the Samsung Galaxy S3 or S4. But that was last year, and this time around, we hope both Google and LG to get their acts together.

This trend clearly reflects that your potential customers want your site to open properly from their smartphones.

Convenience and fast: Your customers access the web from their mobile phones from various locations like their workplaces, favorite coffee shops, restaurants, libraries and many more. Accessing the web on the go is convenient and fast. Speed is important, people do not have the patience to read a website that takes a long time to open. Websites that are optimized for mobile devices load quickly because they are made in a way that makes them compatible with mobile devices. Thanks to the sleek and slim smartphones and tablets available in markets, people can carry them easily in pockets or purses. With these devices they buy movie tickets, book restaurants, shop online, mail their friends, and do many other tasks on the go. This is another reason why you should consider mobile web development to help people reach your website easily from anywhere and anytime.

Improved page rank of your site: To stay in the competition, it is important to have a website that has a good page rank on leading searching engines like Google, Yahoo, or Bing. These search engines decide whether people will find your websites when they are looking for products or services similar to yours. According to the search engine giant, Google, webmasters should develop websites that are optimized for mobile devices. Doing this will increase the likelihood of your business website to fetch a good page rank on search engines.

These are the 3 major benefits of optimizing your website for smartphones. Remember, mobile websites on iPhone, Android, Windows and other platforms are quickly becoming standard elements of creating a solid web presence. If you have made up your mind to optimize your business website for smartphones, the next step is to get in touch with a reputed and renowned mobile website development company that can help you without costing a fortune.

How to Choose the Right Platform for Mobile App Development

Choosing the right platform is as important as developing the codes for your mobile applications. The market today is littered with various platforms and designing your own mobile app development platform to suit iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Mobile will be unrealistic, especially if the release date of the app is knocking at the door and you are still tweaking the kinks and glitches in the code. However, the question here is how do you choose a single platform to launch your product? Let us try and find the answer!

Do conduct market research

If you are an app developer and just looking to reach a lot of people at the one time, choose a platform that is most popular in your area. Wondering how you would go about the process? It would actually be easy to study the figures of what percentage of the population is using what platform. For example, is Android the most preferred mobile device in Australia, or is it iPhone? How many of the users are actually downloading apps from the app stores? What about their revenues resulting from downloads? However, if your mobile app development services are business-specific, you have to study your own market segment and also find out what type of mobile devices they are actually using.

What features should it have

The road map to your mobile application development will finally determine what type of features your product will have. If you are going for the most basic of features, then it can probably be optimized to ensure smooth user experience.

Android apps development is in great demand. Presently, more and more people are buying Android phones and downloading apps from Google Play. Android apps are quite popular with the smartphone users nowadays and almost 700,000 applications available on Google Play. These figures show the growing popularity of the Android apps. According to recent studies, around 71% of smartphone users prefer Android apps when compared to other platforms, like, the iOS.

Which Platform Generates Better Revenue

To choose the right mobile app development platform, it is vital to find out which app offers more revenue and visibility. If you go by the surveys, Apple’s daily sales for apps are higher than Google’s Android. On the other hand, Android offers better visibility. Finally, it is upon you to choose the most suitable platform.

Take Account of Customer Usage

If you are racking your brain on which app you should develop first, it depends on your customers. Find out whether your customers prefer Google services, like, Google Maps, Calendar, etc. Also consider the popularity of the categories among iOS and Android users. For instance some of the reputed categories for Android users are reference and entertainment. iPad and iPhone users are mostly interested in music, fitness, media, shopping, sports, etc.

Which platform is simpler to develop

If you compare iOS and Android, the former is easier to develop as it only has four types of iPhones and iPads. Android, however, is more complex for programming as it has over 400 types of handsets.

While the comparison between iOS and Android is never-ending, as an aspiring mobile app entrepreneur you should know that both these platforms, when combined, own over 90% of the market. So consider the above factors before you choose a particular platform.

iOS development – A Growing Phenomena

The number of mobile apps is exploding with each passing day, primarily driven by a tremendous uptick in the number of mobile devices. With this rise in the use of mobile devices, the development of mobile application, which had to be downloaded or pre-installed in mobile devices for professional or personal work, has also increased. Most companies have introduced the BYOD (bring your own device) strategy nowadays. This has furthered the growth of the mobile application industry even more.

Growth of iOS in the last few years

According to a survey in 2012, there has been a rise of 63% in the number of business houses deploying mobile apps in the last one year. As per these results, around 50% of these business units had to deploy mobile app usage owing to the industry demands. Clearly, mobile app industry has become the largest revenue source for the IT segment today.

In 2012, during the release of iPhone 5, Apple declared that there were 700,000 apps in the iTunes App Store. For a gentle reminder, both Google and Apple launched their mobile app stores in 2008. Despite having almost similar birthdays, iTunes App Store took the lead in terms of mobile app availability. It took Apple 11 months to touch the 50,000 app threshold in the iTunes App Store which Google Play had hit on April 2010, a full year and a half later than Apple.

In 2009, Apple announced the availability of 100,000 mobile apps in the iTunes App Store. Google had hit the mark in 2010, almost a year after Apple. The difference in growth rates between Google Play and iTunes App Store remained moderately steady in both 2010 and 2011, with Apple creating a milestone with 250,000 apps in the iTunes App Store in April 2010 and Google reaching it 15 months later in July 2011.

iOS 7 – A game changer in the world of mobile operating system

Today, iOS 7 is one of the most important changes for Apple's mobile operating system. During the first three hours of its release, iOS 7 had already achieved an adoption rate of more than 10%. Some of the positive changes in iOS 7 are:

  1. It allows users to tuck the Newsstand app away into a folder
  2. The new flattened candy coloured icons are extremely attractive
  3. Altered animations for unlocking devices made things prettier plus the control panel finally lets iOS users adjust bluetooth, airplane mode and brightness.

Few of the most appreciated and lauded features of iOS which makes people prefer them over other smartphones are:

iOS apps have much more polish and development. Arguably, people choose iPhone because of the quality of the apps. To add to that, iPhone has a very simple interface. There are fewer ways to mess up with an iPhone. Additionally, a great feature which all Apple products is that they share their integration with other Apple products. Some of these examples are:

  1. Find my Friends can show you where your family and friends are.
  2. Find my iPhone allows you to locate your lost phone and lock it remotely.
  3. Photo Stream allows you to sync pictures with other iOS devices and Mac computers.
  4. iMessage enables group chats across all Apple devices and computers.

iOS development will continue to rule the mobile app industry in future

Owing to such large number of reasons, iOS development has undergone a phenomenal growth in the mobile app development industry. Owing to its great selection of apps and smooth interface, iOS mobile application development will continue to grow in the years to come.

What iPhone App Developers Can Do To Make User Friendly Apps

iPhone, the smartphone by Apple, has made new records in the mobile industry. Besides being useful at work, these are also excellent sources of fun and entertainment. iPhones are almost like pocket laptops loaded with impressive features for users to enjoy, which make it one of the best smartphones available in the market today. iPhones are packed with numerous applications for their users which they can download from the Apple app store. These applications are developed patiently by iPhone app developers as they need to clear the stringent test of Apple Inc. before being approved for public use.

Hence, expertise and patience are the two pre-requisites of iPhone app developers. Numerous apps have been developed for reading, surfing, gaming, news, music, etc. that are readily available on Apple app store. However, before you deal with the variety or the features of the iPhone apps, it is necessary to comprehend how this can prove fruitful for your business.

  • Firstly, if you create an app especially for a business, then the basic thing that you need to keep in mind is that it should be user friendly. Customers prefer such an app where all they have to do is click on a single button rather than browsing through a bunch of links to land on a single page.
  • Secondly, it is easier to attract new customers with apps that are directly linked to your website. This ensures more traffic and, in turn, in more profits.
  • Thirdly, when customers are satisfied with your user friendly apps, they will always stick to your services. This aids in building long term relationships with your clients.

Since the iPhone is providing a Software Development Kit (SDK) for developing the apps, more businesses are opting for them. Besides the SDK, iPhones also provide easy uploading system for the newly created apps. These benefits help businesses greatly to earn profit. They can either upload their apps to the Apple store or distribute them independently.

However, it is vital that the iPhone app developers deliver their best so that their apps get selected by Apple. While creating an application for iPhone keep in mind that it should exploit all the features found in smartphones like touchscreen, camera, excellent user interface and others. Needless to say, the developer company should ensure that the app has a positive impact on the user. Thus, a deft iPhone app developer will be able to translate the requirement of the customers into practical solutions. For this, a developer must study the SDK thoroughly, understand the application he is about to develop and identify the loopholes in the development.

Hence, iPhone application development can be easily handled when the fundamental approach is right. To save time and money there are several companies who outsource this work. In case you are outsourcing, ensure that the company you have chosen is perfect. It will be able to deliver you an effective solution adhering to the latest trends in technology.
